The exhibit documents personal and institutional changes, as well as the appropriation of the Hochschule’s resources for armaments and war preparations. It also reconstructs the persecution of Jewish and politically undesirable university instructors and the adjustment and self-mobilization on the part of professors in the National Socialist regime.
The focus is on the development of curriculum and research at the individual faculties and the ideological indoctrination and militarization of the Hochschule as a whole. The exhibit takes a special look at denazification and treatment of the National Socialist period after 1945.
The curator of the exhibit is Winfried Nerdinger, TUM History of Architecture professor from 1986 until 2012 and director of the Architectural Museum, TUM Emeritus of Excellence and founding director of the Munich Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism.
TUM president Prof. Dr. Wolfgang A. Herrmann will open the exhibition on May 17, 2018 at 7 p.m. with welcoming ceremonies and a lecture by the renowned Freiburg historian Prof. Dr. Ulrich Herbert on the role of universities in the “Third Reich”.
